With regular ferry services to and from Southampton, it boasts a picturesque marina, pebble beach and a pedestrianised high street brimming with independent stores, coffee shops and artisan bakeries.

There are regular ferries departing from Cowes, with crossing times of just 55-60 minutes to Southampton. The town also boasts easy links to London in just over two hours – catch the high-speed ferry to Southampton, and then it’s just a short train ride into the UK capital. Cowes also offers an excellent road network for motorists, with Newport just 10 minutes away via the B3325.

A SHORT HISTORY OF COWES

Boasting a long and prosperous history as a seaport, Cowes is believed to have taken its name from the cow-shaped sandbanks situated on each side of the Medina estuary. King George IV first launched its world-famous regatta in 1826, and over the years, it has expanded from a three-day yachting race to a week-long event that attracts thousands of competitors from around the globe.

SAILING IN COWES

The highlight of the Cowes calendar is Cowes Week, which takes place every August. With up to 40 daily races, the town also hosts various celebrations and entertainment, culminating in a spectacular firework display. Maritime charity UKSA is based in Cowes, along with renowned yachtswoman Ellen Macarthur who retired in 2010 and now runs the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
