The village grew in popularity as a resort from Victorian times and is famous for its association with the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, who lived there for many years. Today, hikers can enjoy stunning scenery along the Tennyson Down trail, which leads to the monument erected in his memory at the top of the Needles Headland.

Fort Victoria Country Park boasts acres of beautiful woodland and family-friendly attractions, including a planetarium and model railway, while the Tudor fortress of Yarmouth Castle offers stunning views from its battlements. If you’ve got a head for heights, don’t miss the chairlift to the Needles lighthouse, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the sandy cliffs and the blue waters beyond.
